CMCC conducted a very successful community fund raising walk and memorial service in May of 2007 to benefit the family of New York State Trooper David C. Brinkerhoff, who lost his life in the line of duty in Margaretville while apprehending an armed fugitive.
The event was endorsed by the New York State Troopers Foundation and hundreds attended including many representatives of law enforcement and government officials. Several speeches were given, reflecting on the heroism and ultimate sacrifice made by Trooper Brinkerhoff. Speakers included, most notably, New York State Governor David Paterson (then Lieutenant Governor) and Deputy Secretary Michael Balboni.
Other speakers were Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, Congressional District Director Michael Russo, New York State Trooper Foundation President Rachael Mincher and NYS Troopers Troop C Commander Major Kevin Molinari.
Local officials to offer comments were Margaretville Mayor Bill Stanton and Middletown Justice Glen George. Adding a very personal perspective was Mrs. Nancy Engelhardt whose father and brothers are in police work. Receiving a thunderous ovation was New York State Trooper Matthew Gambosi who who played a heroic role in the fateful incident.
Governor Paterson had these words to share "I personally needed to be here... What we need most at this time is each other's presence--the ability to see each other and feel each other, which will help us to a path of inevitable healing."
During the fund raising appeal, Pastor Engelhardt said "Our outpouring of sacrificial giving is a statement that we will not let our community bury this tragedy in the archives of our past without first rising up and answering this evil with good".
He then went on to paraphrase some lines from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address: "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from the spilled blood of this brave servant we take increased devotion to the cause for which he gave the last full measure of devotion. That we here highly resolve that David Brinkerhoff did not die in vain. That our community, under God, shall have a new birth of appreciation for the principles of life, liberty, law and order, from this day forward."

In early 2007, Catskill Mountain Christian center handed out camouflage-colored bands for people to wear in remembrance of our troops including our own Paul Engelhardt who was proudly serving in the US Army, stationed in Iraq. People wear these types of bands for all sorts of causes and reasons, but these particular bands remind us to pray for our sons & daughters, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors who regardless of politics have said, “I would give my life so that you might be free”, as countless others have done before them.
In addition to wearing these bands, we have designed a “Pray For Our Troops” wall in our lobby. The purpose of this wall is to attach names and/or pictures of all our brave troops as a reminder to pray for them EVERY DAY!
If you would like to RECEIVE A FREE BAND AND/OR POST A PICTURE OR A NAME of someone you know who is serving in the US Military to our "Pray For Our Troops" wall, you may contact us the following ways:
